Vision

To reduce the impact of dementia it is necessary to implement innovative modalities of diagnosis, focus on studies for preventive strategies, effective potential treatments, nutritional interventions, and low-cost nonpharmacological action plans for our patients.

Strategy

Luis is working on modalities of diagnosis and potential treatments for dementia through the use of probiotic and nutritional interventions, research in Alzheimer's disease's early prevention, and collaborative therapeutic trials of patients with dementia.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow for Equity in Brain Health, Luis will seek to lead research and promote evidence about the nutritional effect, and the importance of oral habits in the development of dementia and provide prevention of dementia in local groups around the world with action plans.

Motivation

Dementia is a major public health issue in Latin America and the number of people living with dementia is expected to increase in the upcoming years. Luis believes that diseases like dementia are ignored by the society in communities closer to capital cities with low socioeconomic resources and a lack of policymakers.
