Current Work

Susana is a writer and researcher who focuses on socio-environmental issues. As a Rainforest Journalism Fund and Pulitzer Center grantee, she has spent the past few years reporting on illegal activities in Peru's Amazon rainforest.

Vision

To reduce the scale and impact of dementia, Susana believes we need to explore more multidisciplinary approaches that drive the power of creative care and artistic expression to stimulate the brain and encourage meaningful connections.

Strategy

Susana has been documenting the daily lives of older adults living in remote areas of Peru, where societal disparities such as insufficient medical care, a fragile democracy filled with corruption, and other issues threaten people's quality of life.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow, Susana aims to explore creative approaches from various disciplines and foster connections to the natural environment to improve the well-being of those with dementia and their caretakers.

Motivation

By integrating a multidisciplinary approach that includes creative expressions, scientific study, and the chance to actively engage with the natural environment, Susan believes we can improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their caregivers.

Education & Experience

Susana studied Literature at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá before earning a bachelor's degree in Education with a focus on Literature and Humanities from Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima.
