Current Work
Sonia is working as a geriatrician at a mental health hospital and in a private office. She performs comprehensive assessments to address older adults' care needs. She diagnoses and manages comorbidities and geriatric syndromes, such as dementia and frailty.

Vision
As a society, Sonia believes we need to invest timely efforts to promote healthy aging. It is also vital to educate and empower people worldwide to reduce the risk and impact of dementia in current and future generations.
Strategy
Sonia currently provides care for institutionalized people with psychiatric and cognitive disorders. She started the implementation of a cognitive stimulation program, and she is providing educational activities for caregivers of people living with dementia.
Impact
To enhance her knowledge and experience needed to successfully expand her teams and to play an integral role in the development of brain health in her country and region.
Motivation
There is a substantial lack of professionals specialized in older adults living with dementia in Mexico. By training and working in the brain health area, Sonia will contribute to bridge this important gap in her country.
Education & Experience
Sonia Sánchez received her medical school training from the Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango (UJED), Mexico. Sonia completed a Geriatrics Residency at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición (INCMNSZ), endorsed by Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), in Mexico City, Mexico. After her training, she started working at the Mental Health Hospital "Dr. Miguel Vallebueno" and in a private office, in Durango, her hometown, as a Geriatrician.
