To reduce the scale and impact of dementia, Prabha believes we need to increase social awareness of risk factors of dementia; provide health education on its prevention, early diagnosis, and management; and improve social engagement of older adults through the social institutions.
Prabha is training nursing students to do cognitive assessments, administering cognitive assessments of older adults, and conducting research on problems of older adults.
Prabha believes this fellowship is a platform that will help her to develop the skills and experience required to work in the real world, and the opportunity to interact with people and develop relationships.
The estimated number of people with dementia in Nepal is 78,000 in 2015, and this number is expected to reach 134,000 by 2030. Alzheimer’s in Nepal is generally taken as a normal process of aging so awareness regarding health promotion is important.
Prabha completed her proficiency level nursing from Tribhuvan University, Bachelor's degree from Purbanchal University, and Master's of Adult Nursing from Mahidol University, Thailand. She worked as a registered nurse for nine years and then as a Nursing Instructor for five years. She has been working as Lecturer and teaching Geriatric Nursing for the last four years to Bachelor level nursing students.
