It is important to develop local and regional strategies involving stakeholders in the creation and spreading knowledge to promote awareness and the development of health and social policies.

Current Work

Myriam is a neurologist and clinical researcher at Hospital Clínic of Barcelona/IDIBAPS. She is currently working on a project focused on identifying biomarkers for the early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

Vision

To reduce the impact of dementia, it is important to develop local and regional strategies involving stakeholders in the creation and spreading knowledge to the population to promote awareness and the development of health and social policies in the field.

Strategy

Myriam is working with the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium on Dementia (LAC-CD) looking for common regional problems in order to solve them, such as the lack of dementia diagnosis guidelines.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow Myriam developed useful skills for navigating the research world as well as remarkable knowledge about neuroscience, policy, economy, networking and leadership.

Motivation

Post stroke cognitive impairment is underestimated in Ecuador. Early intervention by multidisciplinary teams is one of the most remarkable strategies for success rehabilitation in public hospitals with limited resources.
