Vision

To reduce the scale and impact of dementia, we need to prioritize preventive measures and capacity building within existing health systems for early detection and management.

Strategy

Kwaku leads awareness efforts through a virtual support group for people living with Alzheimer's and other dementias, as well as their caregivers. He also coordinates clinical care through home visits, client follow-ups, and training for healthcare workers.

Impact

As an Atlantic Fellow, Kwaku plans to leverage digital health interventions to increase awareness of Alzheimer's and other dementias and to champion the drafting of the National Dementia Care Plan.

Motivation

Raising awareness is key to reducing the stigma associated with diseases of the elderly in societies that spiritualize such conditions. Kwaku hopes that improving brain health literacy will improve care for the elderly and their caregivers.

Kwaku received his medical school training from the University of Ghana Medical School in 2016. Since completing his housemanship in 2019, he has been in private practice, working with leading hospitals in Accra, Ghana. He is currently a resident medical officer at the Lister Hospital and Fertility Centre.

His volunteer work with Alzheimer's Ghana, an NGO, has allowed him to grow in the areas of advocacy, awareness creation, and clinical care leadership. He currently serves as the Clinical Care Lead at Alzheimer's Ghana.

Kwaku has a special interest in health policy and is currently a Masters in Public Health candidate (class of 2024) with the Imperial College, London.
