To improve access to neurologic care worldwide, we need to train more neurologists, improve neurology education for front-line providers, and develop strategies to diagnose and treat neurologic diseases in resource-limited settings.

Current Work

Aaron is a Professor of Neurology at UCSF where he sees patients and works with neurology residents at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and San Francisco General Hospital. Through collaborations with Partners In Health and Doctors Without Borders, he has worked to improve access to neurology care and education in resource-limited settings.

Vision

Strategy

Aaron is a neurohospitalist, general neurologist, and clinician-educator, working with residents to care for patients at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and San Francisco General Hospital. In addition to GBHI, Aaron works with Partners In Health and Doctors Without Borders to expand access to neurologic care and education.

Motivation

Aaron is collaborating with GBHI and the Atlantic Fellows to expand neurology education in resource-limited settings so as to improve diagnosis and treatment of neurologic disease.
 

Education & Experience

Aaron completed his MD at Johns Hopkins University, his PhD (in music) at Harvard University, and his neurology residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School where he served as chief resident. He subsequently served as the Director of Global Neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, where he developed and taught the preclinical neuroanatomy course for medical students. As a Health and Policy Advisor to Partners In Health, he worked with local partners in Haiti to develop the country's first neurology training program. As a Senior Specialist Consultant to Doctors Without Borders, he provides teleconsultation to front-line providers in resource-limited settings. He joined the faculty of UCSF in 2022 as Professor of Neurology, where he works at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and San Francisco General Hospital.
