The Health Service Executive (HSE) website provides information on the various care services in Ireland. It includes information on getting a General Practitioner (GP) or Family Doctor, which is usually required to be referred to more specialised services.

There is a Staff Health Clinic on campus at Trinity and a GP just off campus, please note that in Ireland, there is a fee for primary care appointments (whether you have health insurance or not). 

Hospitals and Urgent Care Services

The Health Service Executive (HSE) website provides information on the urgent care services in Ireland. Please familiarise yourself with this information in advance so you have the respective details to hand, should it be required. It may be necessary to be pre-registered with a GP/Family doctor to avail of out-of-hour services.

Health Insurance

Private Health Insurance information can be found on The Health Insurance Authority website www.hia.ie Trinity has a VHI Group Scheme and further information on the staff travel insurance scheme can be found here.

Health and Wellbeing Services at Trinity

Trinity offers a number of workplace wellbeing initiatives.

Trinity Health Service offers on-campus primary health and psychiatric care. To arrange an appointment, either drop into reception or ring the office. As well as general practice and nurse-run clinics, there are specialised clinics in physiotherapy, psychiatry, travel health and sexual health.

Trinity Sport

The Trinity Sports Centre facilities include a gym and a swimming pool. The centre also offers fitness and wellness classes including yoga and tennis. Membership is offered to staff and students and it is located a short walk from the Lloyd Institute. Please see the Trinity Sport website for further information: https://www.tcd.ie/Sport/

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provides, a free confidential counselling service. Up to six sessions of counselling are available for each staff member and their immediate families (those living at home with them).

Examples of the issues staff seek counselling for include:

  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Addiction Programmes
  • Career Crisis and Financial Problems
  • Stress Management
  • Depression
  • Bullying and Harassment
  • Relationship Issues, Family / Marital Stress

All consultations with the EAP Counsellor are on a completely confidential basis. Staff are assured that job security, seniority, wage rates, benefits and promotional opportunities will not be jeopardised by a request for consultation with an EAP Counsellor.

Trinity Disability Service

The Disability Service is responsible for carrying out a needs assessment for staff with disabilities in Trinity. Disability needs assessments determine the level of support that staff require. If you have a disability you are encouraged to discuss your specific needs with your line manager, so that the necessary measures and supports may be put in place to facilitate you in carrying out your work.

Information for Parents

The Trinity Day Nursery is located in House 49/50. For more details about services for staff and students, please see https://www.tcd.ie/about/services/daynursery/ or contact the Nursery Supervisor at extension 1938. Places are extremely limited so we would recommend that you look at other childcare options.
