The Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) Regional Convening for South Asia aims to establish an alumni-led regional hub in South Asia and foster collaborations with strong, like-minded institutions to enhance brain health impact.
This inaugural convening will bring together GBHI faculty, Atlantic Fellow alumni from South Asia and Africa with key local stakeholders to advance shared goals in brain health research, education, and advocacy.
By building sustainable partnerships with institutions such as the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) and the Centre for Brain Research (CBR), GBHI seeks to expand its network, support fellows in the region, and ignite new research collaborations.
Strategic Aims
- Establish a GBHI South Asia Regional Hub to support alumni in this region.
- Strengthen partnerships with regional institutions to advance brain health.
- Facilitate bidirectional learning and research collaborations.
- Expand GBHI’s network and boost recruitment of fellows from this region.
Program
Day 1: NIMHANS Collaboration & Brain Health Research
Objectives:
- Introduce GBHI’s mission and explore opportunities for collaboration.
- Learn about NIMHANS’ brain health research and initiatives.
- Identify areas for joint research, training, and faculty exchange.
Day 2: South Asia Regional Hub & IDASA Workshop
Objectives:
- Launch the GBHI South Asia Regional Hub.
- Define goals, governance and administration procedure.
- Discuss sustainability strategies for IDASA project.
- Workshop an African version of IDASA training program.
Day 3: CBR Partnership & Collaboration
Objectives:
- Introduce GBHI’s mission and explore opportunities for collaboration.
- Explore CBR's interdisciplinary projects in brain health.
- Identify areas for joint research, training, and faculty exchange.
Day 4: Field Trip to Kolar District (SANSCOG study)
Objectives:
- Provide hands-on exposure to community-based research in rural areas.
- Demonstrate practical patient recruitment, assessment and field data collection.
